The first martyr of Nepal was Lakhan Thapa. He was born in 1891 BS in Gorkha. He was hanged in front of Manakamana Temple on March 2, 1933. Lakhan Thapa was hanged by Jung Bahadur Rana. He was declared a martyr by the then government of Nepal on March 23, 2002. Lakhan Thapa Magar was declared a martyr. On 3 September 2072, the Government of Nepal declared Lakhan Thapa as the first martyr of Nepal.
